Buying Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7 12.1 MP Digital Camera

Buying Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7 12.1 MP Digital Camera With 12x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom And 3.0-Inch LCD (Blue)

Awesome video capabilities!!

I'm going to be short and direct.
1.- The video quality is spectacular the zoom and autofoucs is incredible!!,10 stars to hd video and zoom and autofoucs.
2. The software to create videos none. you have to buy one to create dvd.
3.Picture quality is awful!!. I bought this camera to repalce my old canon 640, and my canon 640 still taken better picture than panasonic Zs7.
4.-I did return the camera and bought the canon s95. the price was 150 bucks more, but I'm so happy with the canon s95.Abysmal better photos, but medium performance in the hd video, compared to panasonic Zs7.So I'm thinking to buy a hd pocket camcorder!!
5.-Panasonic Zs7 video part and canon s95 photography part, it will be the most amazing camera ,two in one!!

Bottom line,
Buy it if you want a so-so photos and a very excellent video with grand useful zoom.

Good Camera for the Money

I bought this camera as a replacement to my previous 570IS, though I had a Nikon for a few days, but thats another story.

This particular camera works just fine for your average run of the mill taking of pictures, It only has 3x optical zoom, so you can't get those close ups unless you're close up. it has a tough time with low light pictures at times, but its only a pocket rocket.

Video, I use it too much, it has an audio limit, so no rock concerts unless you want all the breaking up and distortion of sound. I wish it had an image stabilization in the video like the Nikons, but it works fine.

All in all, its ok, if you can get a killer deal like me.

Don't Leave Home Without It!

No, it doesn't replace a DSLR for serious photograhy. Then again, you're not going to stick a Nikon D300s in your pocket everytime you leave the house either. The DCS-HX5V is a darn-good, very smart, do-it-all camera you can keep with you at all times. It's small, easy to use, and the feature set is truly amazing. Of course, the bottom line with any camera is the resulting images. Again, amazing.... great clarity, color rendering, and scene intelligence. For advanced users, well versed in digital photography, there's a very impressive array of manual settings and options to play with. At the sametime, less advanced or casual photographers will be very pleased with the results they get, using the simplified automatic settings.

REAL LIFE EXPERIENCES:
I recently went on trip to Toronto with three friends. The first brought a Nikon DSLR (D200), the second brought an older Canon P&S camera, and third isn't into photography. Naturally, I brought my new DCS-HX5V. My two photographer friends were so impressed with my little Sony camera, midway into our trip they both purchased DCS-HX5V cameras. How's that for a recommendation?

Another story.... Our county fair just ended, and I entered four photos. Three of the photos, blown up to 13x19 inch prints, were taken with the DCS-HX5V, and one was taken with my Nikon D300. I asked the three judges to guess which photo was taken with the DSLR camera... all three picked wrong. Bottom line, don't pay much attention to reviews saying the images aren't sharp and are only good for 4x6 inch prints. BTW, all four photos won ribbons.

Traveler

I owned this camera for several weeks and used it extensively while photographing subjects during our short vacation trips. Upon returning home, I viewed both the still and video images on a 46 in. HD TV. The images were excellent. I am not concerned about comparing the quality of the images to other cameras, rather, I rate the overall experience of photography while using this camera, and my ability to capture the moment and communicate it to my audience. My purpose was to display the images as prints or as part of a slide-show for TV viewing. This camera fulfilled its purpose in its ability to easily deliver high-quality images. In all respects the camera was easy to use, and I used it mostly in manual mode, although, I handed it to my travel companions so I can get in the picture. The tilting screen is very useful for self-group shots because one can see the composition on screen, and move around if necessary. The camera is light, small, and I shot all day on the same battery, with power to spare. The image stabilization was very effective, even at the longest zoom setting. Video images are also excellent, in both 1080, and 720: images are sharp with excellent color. I am very pleased with this camera; it has all the features and controls to make photography fun, without having to carry extra photo gear, or weighing you down. It's a go anywhere camera, which I believe you will want to take with you, and make memories.

The best aspect of this product is its memory. 120 gb memory is great. I found that while recording, when you move the camcorder a bit fast, the picture quality reduces and some lines turns to be jagged.

Buying Sony MHS-CM5 Bloggie HD Video Camera

Buying Sony MHS-CM5 Bloggie HD Video Camera (Violet) NEWEST MODEL

Remember what these cameras are generally intended for.

Cameras like this Sony are designed mainly to easily capture scenes of opportunity that are usually of transient interest. The emphasis is on getting the shot in real time and showing the results for a few days after the event. Most of what gets photographed or recorded isn't worth keeping; even professionals scrap more than they publish.

If one wants to create a permanent archive, he obviously won't tie up memory chips but instead transfer the images and videos via computer to optical disk or some other inexpensive medium. That would be the time to use video and image editing software to correct for exposure times, chop out mistakes, create slow motion, and so forth.

This camera produces pretty good videos and stills that can usually be turned into excellent ones if a person wants to take the time to enhance them. The information is there. Naturally, the thousand dollar and up cameras take (somewhat) better videos, but these are also the cameras that often get left home or in the trunk of the car. A $179 camera on the scene will always take better pictures than a $2000 camera safely locked away in a lightless metal box.

Buying Sony Alpha A330L 10.2 MP Digital SLR Camera

Buying Sony Alpha A330L 10.2 MP Digital SLR Camera With Super SteadyShot INSIDE Image Stabilization And 18-55mm Lens

Awesome entry level dSLR

This is a fantastic product for an entry level dSLR user. It may be a great camera for an intermediate or advanced user too, but as I have little experience with photography, I really can't speak to the more advanced demographic. To research my purchase I spent time in two different brick-and-mortar camera shops. When I explained that I use a point and shhot digital and that I had experience 15 years ago with a 35mm film SLR, both shops instantly directed me to the Sony Alpha line (and to the A330 in specific when I disclosed my price range). They said that for the price, its the best quality camera in town and the only camera in the range with a tilting LCD for live view (They also mentioned that SOny makes most of the sensors used in Nikon and Canon dSLRs) which has already come in handy. The menus and display options are what really sold me. The menu interface when shooting on aperature and speed priority mode are very straight forward and the location of the scroll wheel is perfect for making changes without moving yout eye from the viewfinder. Changing the aperature, shutter speed, white balance, ISO, auto-focus area and all other in-the-moment settings are very easy and therefore fast. If you remember to look and pay attention the two different LCD displays make your shot all but dumie proof (which helps me a lot) and in live view you can get a histogram and a few more options to help optomize your shot. The body feels very solid in my hand and, despite being an entry level lens, I have captuered some great wild life and macro shots in the month that I have owned the camera. I have cropped some shots up to 60% and, on a 4x6 print, you would never know it was blown up.

Over all I am excited about my purchase and the quality that Sony is putting into A330.

I purchased this item as we were going to a Yankees game.I have a NIKON D70s but didn't want to have to lug the big camera with the two lenses around during the game. The first I used it was at the game, I was three rows off the field and with the zoom I was able to get great pics of the players and the game. I love this camera! Sometimes, very rarely it won't focus perfectly, but it just takes a couple seconds to adjust it. The 18X zoom is AWESOME! If you are using rechargeable batteries, then they literally last FOREVER! This camera can use SDHD memory cards along with just SD cards, so that's a bonus. :) It has tons of different settings and video quality is good. I would totally recommend this camera to everyone!

Several flaws that shouldn't be there in 2010

A few years ago this would have been an awesome camera. It takes nice pictures most of the time. It's small, battery life seems ok, and the color is pretty.

It's not particularly fast. Sometimes the pictures are out of focus. The picture quality seems pretty good at first, but is maybe a bit sterile.

The two dealbreakers: When you review pictures, the lens doesn't close, so if you pass it to someone they put fingerprints all over the lens. There is no dedicated movie button. If you want to switch to video, you have to flip through a menu.

Another annoyance is that the high megapixel eats up SD card and hard drive space.

I ended up returning this camera and going back to Casio. Casio understands that in 2010 people want to be able to easily take video and pass the camera around with their friends and just generally have a good time with it.

Shouldn't modern technology be better than it was 2 years ago?

I had a Samsung L100 that was probably the best camera I'd owned until it broke earlier this year. It seemed like the camera couldn't do anything wrong when it came to taking pictures, though the video recording left a bit to be desired. When it broke, I first tried my luck with the Fujifilm FinePix JZ300...and it was the first camera I ever rated 1 star (and I don't just give that rating out). So my next attempt was this Nikon Coolpix L22 here. I'd owned a Coolpix a few years earlier, and it took decent pictures. Oddly enough, this one takes slightly worse pictures, and there's a trick to getting non-blurry ones. That shouldn't be the case with what's considered a simple point and click camera. Keep in mind that I'm no professional photographer, nor am I one of those people who calls themselves one just because they take a lot of pictures and thinks the title fits. It's just a hobby, plain and simple. But I do know clarity and detail when I see it, and when it's missing.

First things first, yes, most of the time your pictures will be blurry when using this camera on the Auto setting. You can set the camera down on a table or something with the self-timer on, and take a picture of something that's immobile, and chances are that it'll be blurry in the picture. Why? I don't know. But get this- there's a trick to getting an ok picture on Auto: zooming in just a little bit. I know, it sounds stupid, but the only time I'm ever able to get good pictures if when I turn the Macro setting on, and when I zoom in a tiny bit. If I zoom a little more or not at all, the picture is a mess, and not worth keeping. Some of the special settings like Sunset and all that can make for good pictures and set the mood beautifully, but after trying out all of them several times over the last 4 months, only 5 have been helpful.

Other poor features worth mentioning include the random times it takes to process a picture. Sometimes you'll take a picture, and it'll be done immediately, ready for another. But then there'll be times when you'll wait between 5 and 20 seconds (yes, TWENTY seconds) before you can take another. And the times really are random too, they don't depend on how complicated the image was. Taking a picture of a full moon: just the black night sky and the white moon took 11 seconds once, while a ton of gorgeous fireworks that filled took a quick 2 seconds. Another time, the same full moon picture was 1 second deal. Crazy, but true. Something positive I can say for it though is that the battery life is very good. I've never even seen the Low Battery warning pop up, even on the 4th of July when over 300 pictures and a dozen or so 5+ minute videos were recorded.

When it comes down to it, this camera isn't worth the full price I paid for it. At the current price it's going for, you could certainly do worse (Fujifilm, I'm lookin' at you), but if you can try out cameras in the store or have friends with cameras that you can test out, do that before blindly ordering this. Maybe I'll try hunting down another Samsung L100...

A Must Have

I'm a newbie in the field of digital photography and had concerns that I was leaping too far with the purchase of a DSLR camera. The Nikon D3000 is without a doubt a pleasant transitional experience. The GUIDE mode makes it impossible to take a bad shot. The durability of the unit is far better than the plastic feel of the Cannon models (the other brand considered in my search for a step up from point-and-shoot).

The camera kit (from Cameta Camera) was the best savings out there. It came with all you needed plus things you realized you would have wanted to purchase a month later! They thought of everything when putting together this kit and the price can't be beat. The extra battery, card reader and second lens were a huge savings.

Amazon/Cameta Camera's shipping and delivery were right on target.

Great mid range camera

I've been using this camera for about 2 months now and I've been extremely happy with it so far. I traded up from a Sony DSLR-A230 and I've never once considered looking back. I'm not a professional photographer and I'm not loaded (lowly government employee) and I have no buyer's remorse in spending this amount of money on a camera. None whatsoever. Understandably it's going to be better than the Sony because it's a mid-range rather than an entry level, but it's astonishingly better.

Camera body: Very solid and feels great in your hand. I don't have huge or small hands, and it feels just about right for me. Buttons are laid out properly and all within fingers reach without stretching. Aperture and shutter speed dials spin with just the right amount of resistance. Buttons have a firm press and an obvious detent for when they're activated. LCD display on top is great; it's customizable to what exactly you want it to display.

Lens: I own the kit 18-105 lens (bought the body on sale and then the kit lens on eBay for $200 refurb... saved a little cash) and a 50mm F1.8 lens. VR works fairly well and will allow you to (give or take) shoot about 3 stops slower than you could normally hand hold. I can hand hold around 1/15 without too much blur. You can definitely hear it kicking in and DEFINITELY see it in the viewfinder. Kind of looks like you're drunk (the motions are slightly delayed and slowed). Picture quality with the kit lens is also fairly good but with a moderate amount of linear distortion at the extremes, most notably around 18mm. It's still somewhat correctable with post-processing, but it's worth noting. Around 24mm is where I've noticed the least distortion. Since it's an AF-S lens (meaning the focusing is done by a motor within the lens rather than the screw drive), autofocus is VERY quick. Much better than my 50mm lens that uses the screw drive.

Rear LCD screen: Great great great. Extremely high resolution, to the tune of almost 4 times the pixels of the D80. More pixels means more accurate post-shot analysis. To relate, those of you who have upgraded from an iPhone 3G/3GS to the new iPhone 4, that's pretty close to the same difference in clarity on the screen. It's simply amazing.

User interface: Very well laid out. Customizable menus as well as recently used items, quite handy. Nice little "help" button when scrolling through menus that you hold down and it explains what the item you've selected changes, great for beginners or new Nikon users. The GUI is setup the same as a D300S rather than the lower range cameras, so it's starting to err on the upper end of things rather than lower.

Picture quality: Very good. It's highly dependent upon the lens you put on it and the focusing quality, though. The additional megapixels have a way of really highlighting any blurriness.. so I suppose it's a blessing and a curse. 12.3 is nothing compared to the ridiculous 18 you get on a Canon T2i though; it's getting to be ridiculous. The great thing about the D90 and the rest of the mid range and higher Nikons is that the lens selection is enormous. The ability to use regular AF (non AF-S) lenses is a huge advantage over the lower range models and something to really consider. As noted above, exposures at the extremes with the kit lens will have a fair amount of distortion.

Altogether a great camera. It'll leave you plenty of room to grow if you're just starting out, unlike some other options out there. It's still advanced enough to be used by "power users" though, but it's not a pro camera.

Nikon has stepped up!

I have been a hobby photographer for over 40 years. My 1st Nikon was a 6MP Coolpix that I still have and love to use. My brother bought a D5000 back in the spring and I had taken some great shots with it on my first try but found the price a little more than I wanted to spend. So I had read that this D3100 was coming out soon and I waited to see reviews. This SLR is everything and more that it was reported to be. In less than 10 minutes I was able to take vibrant color, detailed photos , with ease. I used only the 18-55mm VR lens that comes with the VR KIT-BE SURE YOU ARE GETTING THE VR. While I think it would be nice if the computer cable was included it wasn't a factor since I just plug the SDHC card into my card reader and download my pictures, JPEG files and used Picture It to preview.
The camera is so light weight, shutter speed is excellent and can rapid fire in those action shots that you want. I want to add a telephoto and a macro lens to my case and maybe a few filters but I feel that this camera will be by my side for many years. It's the kind of camera that walks you into the learning process of using a digital SLR that many getting their 1st SLR will appreciate very much as the Manual or your on screen help will show you all that is needed. I would say that for the money there is no way to go wrong with the purchase of the new Nikon D3100, simple and fast as full auto point & shoot SLRor switch to manual and start creating those special shots you did with your old 35mm film camera.

So Far So Good

Just setting up the Canon PowerShot DS1400 IS, and it's nifty right out of the box. The size, weight and form factor are extrememly attractive. The included accessories are generous in a way that other digital camera manaufacturers don't offer and the camera's features are well concieved. The controls vould be a bit more 'intuitive', but I still ain't complaining, and the video and still shot results are a cut above the rest. Canon knows it's customer and the point and shoot market, in general and they aim high.
