Worth Every Penny
I am new to digital photography and spent the last few months searching for a camera that would be as convenient and flexible as any P&S but give me the ability to play around with manual settings and hopefully take some breathtaking photos, this is it.
The choice i had was the Panasonic LX-3, or the S90 (i took that long to decide the S95 came out in the meantime so hence my decision started again). I was initially attracted to the LX3, and after reading hundreds of reviews from people far more knowledgeable than myself decided that the Panasonic had the edge on features (JUST!).
However the deal breaker for me was the size of the S95, although it has a photo quality comparable to many DSLR's, it easily fits in my jeans pocket (even inside the recommended 'CaseLogic' Soft case) and is as small if not smaller than many other P&S cameras. When comparing the size of the LX3 and this, it was clear that the LX3 is not as portable and is not 'jeans' pocket-able. I am using it for traveling so this was important to me.
I will try and some up my favorite points about the camera after 1 week of playing around with it:
PROS:
- VERY Handy size
- Extensive range of Pre settings that cater for any condition (the miniature mode is fun to play around with, the effect of tilt shift built in)
- Full Manual controls for when your are feeling more adventurous
- Feels well made
- User friendly controls and menus
- Great image quality
CONS:
- The placement of the pop up flash, as the camera is small you have to hold it at each corner. The pop up flash can take you by surprise as it is located in the upper left corner of the camera.
SUMMARY:
Fantastic camera and well worth the money in my opinion, if you are looking for a new high end P&S in the same price bracket, spend a little extra and get this one, you won't be dissapointed. I am looking forward to understang the manual settings and being able to use it to its full potential.
