Cheap Nikon D5000 12.3 MP DX Digital SLR Camera With 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6G VR Lens And 2.7-inch Vari-angle LCD

worst nikon camera

I own it - and have owned pretty much every entry/hobbyist dslr Nikon camera since the D50 ... D40, d40x, d60, d80, d90 ....and d5000 --- so, I can say I am a Nikon fan (until now).
Sold my D90 due to error messages with 18-105mm lens - well documented in forums around the net. LOVED the camera HATED the constant error messages.
Bought this d5000 - same sensor same processing... was aware of smaller lower res LCD and lack of top lcd, and of lack of in camera focus motor and weaker battery, lack of DOF and crappy (comparatively) viewfinder.
BUT, where this camera FAILS MISERABLY (again documented on forums) and NIKON is refusing to fix it --- it AUTO-ISO... AUTO ISO is a MAJOR reason I buy Nikon and the Nikon implementation has been around for years -- and it was GREAT.
On the D5000 it does not work if you pop-up the flash. Using AUTO-ISO --Unless your focus is within a short range (1-2 meters) it will RAISE THE ISO to the maximum set in the "auto-iso" settings. In my case, I have it set on 3200iso max with a time of 1/40th/sec so that I don't get shaky pix when shooting without flash...
This leads to indoor, room distance photos WITH flash taken with ISO3200 ... LOUSY LOUSY LOUSY quality compared to the THOUSANDS of pix I have taken with the D90 where they were all taken at 200iso. So, remember, same sensor and yet because of the software implementation of auto-iso in the D5000 you get horrible results.
Yes, you can manually change this EVERY time - but, then the way it worked before was a GREAT GREAT feature and one that Nikon fans loved.
Don't buy the D5000.....
